About Us NURSERY IS NOW OPEN THURSDAY-SUNDAY 10.00 AM - 4.30 PM
Our plant nursery is to the west of the main High Street in HENFIELD down STONEPIT LANE
(off of WEST END LANE)
OUR STORY:
In 1989 we had the opportunity to purchase a bare plot of land in our home village of HENFIELD where we established our family-run nursery within an area which historically has been well known for market gardening and nurseries since the late 19thc supplying BRIGHTON ( initially by horse and cart then later by road) and by 1905 LONDON with vegetables and flowers (including carnations and violets) by train (using the STEYNING LINE which closed in 1966 due to Dr Beeching's axe and now part of the Downs Link).
Wishing to continue with the tradition of the area we named the nursery ' STONEPIT ' after the stone quarry nearby (which ceased working by c1896 and from which the lane running past the nursery is named ).
Initially the large glasshouse at the top entrance to the nursery was built to begin our production of annuals and natural season cut flowers with further glasshouses and polythene tunnels constructed over the following 10 years to increase our turnover of
annual plants and begin the production of shrubs and perennials for use in our landscape business.
We pride ourselves on being in business for 30 years and are now aiming to expand our existing production of shrubs and perennials to meet the growing demands in the new housing market and the increase in garden designers and landscapers that need good quality plants in the West Sussex area.
